Getting the era right
Most decade costumes go wrong the same way: a general "retro" look built out of three eras at once. A flapper dress, a disco collar and a grunge flannel read as three separate periods even when the colors are a match. Pick one decade and let the accessories follow its shape, the fringe and headpiece for the 1920s, the wide collar for the 1970s. That version reads at a glance. Shape only holds if the fit does, and every costume goes through over 30 measurement checks. For a group or a couples costume, put everyone in the same decade and the theme carries across the whole party.
Frequently asked questions
What comes in a decade costume set?
Two to four pieces, for most of our decade styles. The Womens WW2 Army Uniform Costume runs to four, jacket, skirt, belt and hat; the Charleston Flapper Costume to three, dress, gloves and headpiece. Exact contents sit on each product page.
What sizes do decade costumes run?
Small through XX-Large or XXXL, depending on the piece and the era. The Blue Power Rangers Morphsuit is the outlier: it sizes by height. Check the product page for the full range on any one style.
Do you have decade costumes for kids?
That depends on the era. Open the decade page you want and it shows what that particular look carries in kids sizes.
Can I put together matching costumes for a decades party?
Yes. Work from one decade's page and give each person a different piece from it, and the whole group still reads as a single theme.
Which decade should I pick?
Go with the decade whose shape and colors you already like, or the one your party is themed around. Either route lands on a look you will want to keep on all night.
