Contact lenses and face paint
Special-effect contact lenses can finish a zombie look, but the FDA regulates decorative lenses as medical devices, just like lenses that correct vision, so even purely decorative lenses need a prescription and an eye doctor's fitting. A 2015 study cited by the American Academy of Ophthalmology found chlorine in three types of non-prescription costume lenses and iron on four pairs. The Academy also warns that an ill-fitting lens can scratch the surface of the eye and open the door to infection. Buy lenses only through an eye doctor, with a prescription.
Patch test face paint or fake blood on your arm at least a day or two before the party.
