Step 2: How do you make and attach the chest patch?
Make the chest patch from white felt and attach it without heat. Our red Morphsuit is a stretch fabric that takes a hand wash and an air dry away from direct heat, so we'd leave the iron, and any iron-on transfer, in the closet for this one.
- Trace the circle. A dinner plate gives you an adult-sized circle and a salad plate a child's. Draw around it, then cut the felt.
- Add the number. Write a big 1 on one patch and a big 2 on the other with a black fabric marker, going over each stroke until it's thick. Chunky numbers read from across a room; skinny ones read as a smudge.
- Put the suit on first. The fabric stretches once it's on a body, so a patch pinned to a suit lying flat can pucker the moment you step into it.
- Fix it at the chest. This part takes two people: a friend tacks the patch on with a few loose hand stitches while you stand still and try not to giggle. Small safety pins also work; keep them closed, and have an adult do the pinning on a kids' suit.
- Take it off after the party. Off comes the patch, and you're left with a plain red suit for whatever costume comes next.

A matching pair needs 2 suits, 2 wigs, and 2 patches, because each person wears a full set. Only the number on the chest tells the two apart, which is half the fun.
- Two friends or a couple. Two adult suits, numbers 1 and 2. Settle who gets to be number 1 before the party, not at it.
- A parent and a child. One adult suit and one kids' suit. Trace the salad plate for the smaller chest.
- Siblings. Two kids' suits, each matched to that child's own height. Same red, different sizes.
- Three or more. The numbers don't have to stop at 2. A family of 5 wears 1 to 5, and a team of 10 wears 1 to 10.
