Our favorite kids Halloween costumes

We build and size our kids Halloween costumes for children rather than shrinking an adult pattern. The picks below run from a self-inflating astronaut to a light-up grim reaper. Inflatable costumes were our best-selling kids costume type last Halloween, which is why two of the picks below are inflatables.

Kids inflatable alien pick-me-up astronaut costume

Alien Inflatable Astronaut Costume. Self-inflates in about 1 minute and runs up to 4 hours on a set of batteries, so it lasts the whole evening without a recharge.

Astro Jetpack Inflatable Costume. A rocket pack with flame detailing and its own inflating fan, so nothing needs pumping by hand.

Kids glitter black cat dress costume

Glitter Black Cat Dress. Sparkly fur trim and an attached tail on a costume that still counts as a dress, for a kid who wants to look dressed up rather than covered up.

Purple Bat Dress Costume. A moon-and-star print dress with attached wings and a matching headband, spooky in shape only.

Kids light up grim reaper costume

Grim Reaper Light-Up Costume. Battery-powered LED glasses light up red at the press of a button, over a printed skeleton ribcage, with a three-piece scythe included.

Kids Horror Clown Costume. A hand-painted mask and a blood-stained ruffle collar. This is the scary end of the kids range, so check your child wants that first.

Getting the fit, layering, and safety right

Every costume goes through over 30 measurement checks, so a size 4 to 6 fits like a size 4 to 6 rather than however the factory felt that day. Go with your child's normal clothing size, and size up one only if they will be wearing a coat underneath.

Trick-or-treating gets cold fast once the sun goes down, so plan for a layer underneath rather than a bigger costume. We use a 125GSM+ breathable fabric, which holds its shape over a base layer instead of bagging out. Add something reflective or a light-up piece too, since a costume that reads clearly under a store light can disappear on a dark street.

If your child will not keep a mask on, the Glitter Black Cat Dress uses a headband instead, and the Alien Inflatable Astronaut above is a pick-me-up illusion built around your child's own face, not a mask over it. A costume a child can see out of is a costume they keep on. Seams that touch skin are covered in soft material, and the hard side of the Velcro faces away from your child, so nothing rubs raw by the end of the evening. All of our kids' products are safety tested by accredited labs.

Frequently asked questions

Are there non-scary Halloween costumes for kids?

Yes. The Alien Inflatable Astronaut, Astro Jetpack, Glitter Black Cat Dress, and Purple Bat Dress above are all fun rather than frightening. The whole inflatable range sits on that side of the line, and so does most of the animal range. If you want the frightening end instead, the Grim Reaper and the Horror Clown are it.

What Halloween costumes work for a whole family?

Pick a theme with room in it rather than a fixed cast, so nobody ends up with the leftover part. Animal themes scale to any number of people and any age, and the group and family range linked above is built for exactly that.

Do your kids costumes include everything shown in the photo?

Mostly, but not the styling. The Grim Reaper ships with its three-piece scythe, the Purple Bat Dress with its wings and matching headband, the Horror Clown with its mask, red wig, and top hat. Shoes, tights, and any prop used to set the scene in a photo are not part of the costume unless they are listed on that product's own page.

How long does an inflatable kids costume stay inflated?

The Alien Inflatable Astronaut above self-inflates in about 1 minute and runs up to 4 hours on one set of batteries, which covers a full evening of trick-or-treating without a recharge or a cord to trip over. Check the individual product page for run time before you buy, since it varies by costume.
