Sailor, navy or captain costume: what's the actual difference?
The three names get used for the same costumes, but they describe different ranks. A sailor costume is the enlisted deckhand: a striped top, wide-leg pants or shorts, and a flat white cap. A captain costume is the officer, so the top becomes a structured jacket with epaulets and gold trim. "Navy costume" is the umbrella term for both, and for anything in navy and white that does not commit to a rank.
