The tail is built into the back, not stuck on, so there's no loose tail to lose at the party. The wings carry a bone print and strap over the shoulders, and the half-face mask has horns and ridged scales. A front zip gets you in and out fast. The stretch fabric runs in five sizes, M to 3XL; if you fall between two, size up to leave room for the wing straps.

How does a ride-on inflatable dragon costume work?

A ride-on inflatable dragon costume uses a small battery fan to fill the dragon with air, so you look seated on its back while your own legs do the walking. You step in, settle the elastic at your waist, switch on the fan, and the dragon fills out and holds its shape.

Our Mens Red Dragon Ride On Inflatable Costume is 100% polyester, with orange spikes, white teeth, black claws, and a gray knight hat for the rider. The fan and battery pack are included; the fan takes 4 AA batteries, which aren't. The elastic waist is how one size covers most adults. Wear close-fitting clothes underneath so the fan can inflate the dragon fully. Your face stays in the open, so there's no viewing window to look through.

How do you make a dragon costume look more realistic?

A dragon costume looks more realistic when the head, the body color, and the wings-and-tail outline match. Pick the head to suit your taste: the half masks in our jumpsuit packs keep your mouth free for talking, and a latex mask gives you a sculpted, fanged face.

Our Dragon Latex Mask covers the face and the front of the head: black ridged scales, horn spikes, yellow eyes, and an open jaw lined with fangs. It is one size for most adults. Skip it if you're allergic to latex.

Build a realistic adult dragon costume from the head down, in 4 steps:

1. Start with the head. Choose the mask first, then build the color down from it.

An adult dragon costume should fit by body measurement, not by the size you usually buy. Every costume goes through over 30 measurement checks. Go by the chart on each dragon's product page.

• Jumpsuit and playsuit. The jumpsuit runs M to 3XL; size up between two to leave room for the wing straps. The playsuit runs Small to X-Large. Both get a cold hand wash and an air dry, flat, never the dryer. Store the jumpsuit's wings and mask apart so they keep their shape.
• Ride-on inflatable. One size for most adults, held by an elastic waist. Hand wash with the fan and battery pack removed, let it air dry fully, then deflate and fold it loosely.
• Latex mask. One size for most adults; skip it with a latex allergy.
