Step 1: Which rock era should you pick?

Step 5: How do you do stage face paint safely?

Test the paint on your arm at least 24 to 48 hours ahead, check that its colors are FDA-approved, and keep anything labeled not for use near the eyes away from them. That is the FDA's advice, and it comes before any technique here because the paint sits on your face all night.

1. Patch test. The FDA's Halloween safety guidance says to try the makeup on the wearer's arm at least 24 to 48 hours in advance. A rash, redness, swelling, or other irritation is a sign of a possible allergy.
2. Check the colors. The FDA's novelty makeup page says color additives must be FDA-approved for cosmetics, theatrical makeup included, and that a label saying not for use near the eyes should be believed. Colors that are fine on skin may not be fine near the eyes.
3. Keep the shapes bold and simple. A pale base, dark shapes around the eyes, and a darker mouth line are enough, and big shapes are easier to fix mid-party than fine detail.
4. Do the face last. Put the wig and the bandana on first, then paint, so you are not pulling fabric over fresh paint.
5. Take it off the way the label says, and do not go to bed with it on.

How do you wear and care for it?

A cold hand wash and an air dry is the routine for our fabric costumes. On the zebra-print set, that means hand washing the shirt and leggings, drying them flat away from direct heat, and taking the guitar and accessories out first; deflate the guitar to store it.
